The outstanding environmental performance of the Shatin to Central Link – Exhibition Station and Western Approach Tunnel contract (SCL1123) has brought to us the Construction Industry – Gold Award from the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE).
Presented by Mrs. Carrie Lam, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, this award is the highest commendation that our business has received from the HKAEE.
The team has gone to exceptional lengths to reduce waste at source through reusing and recycling materials, examples include:
- making use of secondhand materials through coordination with other projects, such as office furniture and construction materials including acoustic blankets, concrete blocks and sheet piles
- adopting various sorting methods, such as mobile screener for rock and soil and machines with electromagnets for metals from demolition material, and adopting alternative Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) designs to avoid construction of a temporary diaphragm wall and adopting a temporary bus stop shelter modified from a container that was reused for other stages of TTM
Leighton Asia have also received the Outstanding Green Leadership and Hong Kong Green Organisation Awards from the HKAEE in recognition of our effort in green management practice and environmental protection.
