Shaping the city of more than seven million people

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Hong Kong Contractors Association (HKCA).

As a long-term member and supporter of one of the oldest associations in Hong Kong, Leighton Asia is proud to continue to play a role in shaping Hong Kong’s landscape.

The recent published centenary commemorative publication, ‘Built Over The Century – HKCA 100th Anniversary’ features 100 notable buildings and infrastructure projects in Hong Kong. It tells the stories behind these projects and how advancements in new construction technology has driven the industry forward.

Leighton Asia’s projects featured in this centenary commemorative publication include:

  • Express Rail Link West Kowloon Station (p.276-281)
  • Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Passenger Clearance Building (p.286-289)
  • The Central-Wanchai Bypass (p.308-310)

Expertise

Construction of the north entrance steel structure of the Express Rail Link West Kowloon Station required building nine sets of irregular Mega-Columns up to 45m in height.

Building safely

Unlike the conventional prefabricated modules, the roof module of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Passenger Clearance Building made by the Modular Integrated Construction method included not only the structural steel frames.

They also came with pre-installed building services, as well as architectural builders works and finishes such as aluminum cladding, skylights, smoke vents, drainage, baffle ceilings, and lighting systems.

CWB

80% of the Central-Wanchai Bypass (CWB) runs underground, which reduces the obstruction to the harbour front view. Extensive greening elements are also added to the structure and the areas surrounding the CWB, with the intention to provide additional green space to the area.

For 50 years Leighton Asia has built a strong track record as an international contractor in the construction, civil engineering and offshore oil and gas sectors.
