Leighton was responsible for the construction of the first phase of this major retail, commercial and residential development in Kuala Lumpur for City Properties Sdn Bhd.
City Properties initiated the project in 1996, but construction was halted in 1998 due to the economic downturn in Malaysia. Improved economic conditions allowed the project to re-commence in 2002.
Located on a three-acre site in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the Avenue K project comprised of two apartment towers, a seven-storey podium and six-storeys of basement parking. As the main contractor for the first phase of the project, Leighton was responsible for the completion of the podium and basement.
Internationally acclaimed, neo-classical French designer, Christian Liaigre was appointed to work on the project. Popular amongst fashion designers and the like, he has designed and built living and workspaces for Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfield, Valentino, Marc Jacobs, Rupert Murdoch, as well as hotels like The Mercer (New York), The Montalembert (Paris) and The Guanahani Resort in St. Barts.
Leighton arranged the construction financing for the project, secured by a payment guarantee from Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad, a government financial institution under the Federal Ministry of Finance.
